The sports world is still adjusting to the affects of the pandemic, but Snapchat has managed to carve a niche for itself in the evolving new normal for fans.

Snapchat said in a blog post that a survey of users last October found that 70% of them use the application while watching sports.

And those sports may have been different ones than Snapchatters were accustomed to, as 17% of respondents said cancellations and postponements have led them to start watching or following different sports and teams.

The majority of Snapchatters who responded to the survey use their phones while watching sports on other devices, and they were most likely to be spending time on social, communication or photo apps; calling or texting friends or family; or playing games.

Snapchat wrote in its blog post, “Introducing the best fans in the world: the Snapchat Generation. Sports fans don’t just stream content on Snapchat—they create it. Snapchat is home to millions of sports fans who love to connect with friends, family and fellow fans. For every Snapchatter watching game highlights or behind-the-scenes footage, there are fans ranting, raving and smack-talking the competition.”

On a marketing note, the company added, “Fans who eat, sleep and breathe sports gravitate toward brands who love the game as much as they do.”
