Mobile data and analytics company App Annie released a new year-end report analyzing worldwide mobile application usage in 2020.
According to the report, worldwide mobile app and game downloads will reach 130 billion across the iTunes App Store and Google Play in 2020. Both app stores experienced 10% year-over-year growth this year.
On Android, time spent in mobile apps increased 25% from 2019, surpassing 3.3 trillion hours in 2020. Globally, the business app category experienced the biggest growth on Android phones this year, with a 200% increase in time spent.
Looking at the top apps worldwide across both iOS and Android from January through November 2020, App Annie found that social networking apps dominated the field. TikTok was the most downloaded app worldwide in 2020, followed by Facebook, WhatsApp, Zoom and Instagram.
For consumer spending, Tinder led the pack in 2020, followed by TikTok, YouTube, Disney+ and Tencent Video.
Finally, from January through October 2020, Facebook was the biggest app worldwide in terms of monthly active user, followed by WhatsApp, Messenger From Facebook, Instagram and Amazon.
